Commissioned by John Carter Cash for the album The CASH Collective: Hey Crow! I was invited to present the original artwork to John Carter at the CASH Cabin studios in Hendersonville, Tennessee. See photos of that meeting here in this gallery. The original art now resides in his personal collection on the walls of that famous studio.
Many of John Carter’s personal items and artifacts were used in the construction of this work dating back to his early childhood in the 1970's. INCLUDED: A slingshot given to John Carter from his father Johnny Cash, a vintage and personalized ‘John Carter Cash’ ink pen, marbles, a pocket knife that belonged to his father, Johnny Cash, a portion of a signed hat gifted to Johnny Cash from Ernest Tubb dating 4-5-78.
ALSO INCLUDED:
“The old microphone is a desktop mic from the old radio days. It was used by my mother (June Carter Cash) and grandmother (Mother Maybelle Carter) in the ’40’s. The small pot with mixed substrate within: I once had a cactus growing in it, it was alive for years and years. During a rough time in my life, I left the cactus at my old home and moved to a rental. Months and months later, I went back to that old home. The cactus was dead and withered. I kept the pot as a reminder that all things need care that we commit to caring for, even those that are very hardy and seem fine without us being there all the time.” – John Carter Cash
