Once upon a time in the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job.
As with all good tales throughout history, the story of Job seems to invoke the timeless human cycles we are experiencing today as we sit in the year 2021 and struggle to remember what normal even feels like. Some may say they are tired of hearing stories of suffering. But where would we be today, and how would we have begun to heal, if everyone who heard our pain had been too tired to listen?
In this new work, I am exploring the pain and anxiety of massive disruption and how we are changed by it. This is my attempt to bring a re-imagined 21st century Job to life in a way that encapsulates not only his experience, but also our own.
I’ve used a combination of found and repurposed objects, multi-media visuals, and incorporated input from the public, on multiple panels. This installation measures 8 1/2 feet high by 5 feet wide by 3 1/2 feet deep - my largest project to date.
This project was funded on November 12, 2020 by 164 Kickstarter backers who pledged $21,691 to help bring this project to life.
"Good art is making people more human, making people more intelligent, sensitive and emotionally pure than they might otherwise be." – Michael Longley, Irish poet
Good art has the ability to transform, reshape and redirect one's life. Imagine looking into a mirror or looking at a compass for direction, location and assessment. Fully conscious, taking note of what you see and feel.
Take some time to slow down and look around yourself - absorb the beauty that you see today and allow whatever it is that you're feeling to surface, knowing that you will come to its end and be in a changed state.
Much love and light and peace to you - Wayne
