On display in the prestigious Mullen Library of Catholic University of America in Washington, DC for an extended period of time.
Art is sometimes troublesome to engage and perhaps our feelings of discomfort are inviting us into a larger conversation with ourselves.
My Great-Grandparents immigrated from Brzezinka, Poland. Brezinka (Brzezinka) is a village in southern Poland — site of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp otherwise known as “Little Auschwitz” — a place of horrific war crimes.
As Ukrainian civilians seek refuge from atrocities at home, a vast majority of refugees have been welcomed by Poland. Given my lineal descent, this tragedy is particularly close to my heart. As Ukrainians continue to fight bravely for freedom and democracy under the leadership of their president, Volodymyr Zelensky, my intent is for this work to serve viewers as a conduit to process outrage and grief, and to express support for the Ukrainian resistance.
This work is not available for sale or profit.

As Ukrainian civilians seek refuge from the atrocities taking place in their country, millions of refugees have been welcomed by Poland, which borders Ukraine to the west.
In the image above on the left are my grandparents, John Walter Brezinka and Johanna Angeline Kostreba. Their parents immigrated to the United States from Poland.

Because of my lineal descent from the region, this unfolding tragedy in Ukraine is particularly close to my heart. I created this series as a conduit to process outrage and grief, and to express support for the Ukrainian resistance.
