ABOUT THE ART & ARTIST
Brezinka (Brzezinka) is a village in southern Poland — site of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp otherwise known as “Little Auschwitz” — a place of horrific war crimes.
As Ukrainian civilians seek refuge from atrocities at home, the vast majority of refugees have been welcomed by Poland.
Given my descent, this tragedy is particularly close to my heart.
I have been so inspired by the fierce determination of the Ukrainian people to hold their ground and fight back as the intensity and brutality inflicted upon them escalates.
We look on with horror, but also with hope: that the courageous persistence of the Ukrainian people will prevail; that their resistance is unwavering; and that the young democracy of Ukraine will triumph.
