Cover commission for the Los Angeles Times: Year In Review, 2020. Published December 27, 2020.
How do you capture such a monumental year and its extraordinary, historical events in one single image?
Using scavenged headlines cut from Los Angeles Times newspapers along with found objects, I combined painting and collage to depict the fury of 2020.
The central figure represents all of us peering through the window as we witness the upheaval of America: lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus, job loss, racial injustice, and deep political division unfolding before our very eyes.
The stripes on the American flag are tattered and worn, the figure in the window stands in isolation, the all-too-familiar mask worn by the individual, and the fire outside the window depict elements of this year of unprecedented chaos.
This special edition fine art print features high-density pigments providing vibrant hues, rich solids and sharp images offering brilliant reproduction just right for your space.
